Yes, there actually is an easy (and powerful) way to navigate the guitar -- to play chords in any key and position -- an it's by using using SCALES ... as this video explains:
In a nutshell, the chords in each key are all derived from the key's underlying scale. So once you can play the scale pattern, it's just a matter of picking out the various chords built from the scale ... in any position on the fretboard.
For example, the C major scale is made from notes C D EF G A BC, and looks like this in different octaves on the guitar:
And since every chord in this key -- C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am, and Bo -- are all built from this scale, by simply combining every other note, you can pick out each of them on the fretboard like this....
